Spokane Gets Smacked!!!

GODSMACK RECAP: *Phew* finally got the DJ voice back, after an incredible show with GODSMACK sunday night at “the Factory”. It was a lean-mean somewhat stripped down show put pure GodSmack with all the essentials. (see set list below)  Prepared to open for Motley crue the very next day for Cruefest II, it was Sully, Robbie, Tony, and Shannon alone. No “Voodoo-girls”, No Pyros, No 20 minute Sully and Shannon Drum-off, or acoustic interlude. Like a machine, they came out pounding and kept the crowd pushing forward bouncing in a giant unison as if “the factory” floor had giant springs beneath it! Higlights included seeing Sully do the guitar solo (that’s new) and the crowd singing VOODOO so loud nobody noticed that Robbie’s bass had stopped working and he stood on stage pounding it looking at the stage mix crew waiting for them to outfit him with another in mid-song. Instictively, the band played on without seeming to even notice, masterfully Tony adopting the bass-parts betwen his etheral guitar chords (of all songs for this to happen on) to this bass-heavy song! Good job Tony!!! We fealt maybe Robbie wasnt having a good night but we loved him just the same~ the entire band was ontop of their game after too long of an inland-Northwest hiatus.  And the crowd showed it, with a crowd-surfer-to-mosher ratio of about 22:1. We saw some people get lifted forward across the sea of head, and tossed up over the barricades five or six times …and they were coming at a rate of six – ten a minute!  (PHOTOS)

100 YEARS OF MOTORCYCLES: G.A. is ‘the man” on this anual celebration of all things loud and shiney at the fairgrounds, but it’s safe to say the show this year was extra loud and shiney.

I have some shots i’ll post to my HOTSPOTS gallery later on~ but it was great to see all those bikes and bikers gathered in one location and the local bands, “battle-cage”, booths, the Inland-helicopter specially painted R-44, 100yr biker girls, and all those sweet sweet customs and classics~ I hadn’t planned on going to an exceptionally tight schedual this week (see next post) but was personally invited by “the First lady” Jennifer Scott, and therefore, like being invited to the Royal Tea-Party by the queen- one isnt actually being INVITED… but summonsed, and one must drop whatevere it was they were doing.  So, I arrived shortly after the appointed time and was treated to lunch with the world-famous master-chopper builder MONDO, followed by “some quality time” alone with the queen… I mean the FIRST LADY! woo-hoo!!  (PHOTOS)

THE TORCH: My wife had said “Honey, this is your anniversary gift.. so go have fun at the UH-UH bar.”  Enough said. Carmen, we hope to see you in our Miss Rock-Hard comp later~

Hot & Sticky

That would best describe the feeling… And I’m not JUST talking about seeing LACUNA COIL play the Mosh-pit studios this week;

Lacuna Coil

AND all those Bi-planes at the Great NorthWest Biplane Fly-In this weekend at Felts Feild (Spokane, Wa) I’ve added the PICTURES HERE (on my HOTWINGS site).

There is nothing more romantic than seeing classic airplanes across an old grass strip for as far as the eye can see! Sweet-wings, and great pilots, most of whom flew off at various times up to Deer Park for the landing competition. So it was a morning of non-stop fly-bys and vintage wings. Addison Pemberton got to show off his Stearman, the Speedmail, and even the now-world famous Boeing 40C. He is a very cool guy with obviously WAY TOO MUCH TIME and PARTS on his hands ;P

Then it was off to CARTOYS for the weekend’s giant tent sale in the 95 degree heat~ Where we talked stereo, hung out with all types of Rock listeners, showed off some shiney wheels and then had a surprise visit from non-other than the “Track Offical” of Rock 94&1/2′s FREEWAY500 – Deputy Craig!

Deputy Craig with Geoff Scott heating it up at CRTOYS

(to show us the proper way to fry an egg on a harley seat) Pictures are posted on the GEOFF SCOTT *LIVE ACTION* CAM page from both fun-filled sunny days on our CARTOYS TOUR.

On a personal note: I have been very busy in the production-kitchen, cooking up our GODSMACK weekend for the show warm-up and for thre days you’ll be hearing ALOT of Godsmack and “Smak-Backs” on the air AS WE NEAR SHOWTIME.

And, oh yeah ….Your MOM was there~ and she had alot of fun / Especially the 4 Moms’ I danced with, after the drum-solo. Now I finally know how Rod Stewart must feel (and why he comes back to Spokane so much) or even Kasey Kahne~ Mom’s DO ROCK!!!

My Mom likes that song “Play that funky music…”, by the way. But, she wasn’t there. So I’m off to make her day; with Flowers & a Static-X video. Just what she wanted. Happy mothers day, and thanks for putting up with all those drums in your basement for all those years, Ma.I finally found a place to play them… You can have your couch back now, too!

Life Without Gunners

Great interview and special thanks to MATT SORUM for introducing us to DRIVE-A a great rocking band of young fledglings with some pretty agressive chops; Matt produced two of the songs on the CD and also took some time out to update us on VELVET REVOLVER, CAMP FREDDY,  Drumming for PERRY FARRELL’S brithday party, getting to play with OZZY (a life long dream) and why Guitar Hero is big enough to cause AEROSMITH to go back into the studio to RE-record some of heir all-time classics! Writing a game’s alot more work than we thought. MYLES KENNEDY is mentioned as well, and, why MATT SORRUM prbably won’t be rushing out to buy his tickets for this summer’s G&R tour…

Ah… Life is good!!!

High Flyin’ Low Ridin’ & Loud Lunchin’

A kickin week of BIG NEWS, and outrageous EVENTS… It just doesn’t get much better than this!

  1. GODSMACK announces their “warm-up” before joining the CREWFEST TOUR, right here in Spokane… It’s ROCK 94 & ½ PRESENTS, and it sells out in a world-record 3 minutes!
  2. TESLA puts on a show (and a half) at THE FACTORY, but not before treating our lunchtime listners to a MOSH-PIT PERFORMANCE! (Photos & ‘Director’s Cut’ Full-length Video now posted)
  3. Speaking of Mosh-Pit performances; While ITM continues to be the most downloaded performance on THE FREEWAY500 VIDEO PAGE, ROYAL BLISS set the record for most tunes played in a single performance, POP EVIL, the LONGEST performance… We’re about to set another MOSH-PIT RECORD: TWO bands ONE MOSH on THE 22nd as TRAPT & RED share the table!
  4. ALSO updated on the FREEWAY500 web page for your enjoyment… MAXIMUM BABE ALERT! From the SEAGALS, to the 6th anniversary of THE TORCH

you’re going to want to close off the cubicle, hold your calls… and make sure that school teacher looking front desk receptionist is nowhere near your video screen when you check the PHOTOS PAGE!

And, finally, If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to fly an airplane to a distant city, by yourself, and make it back, safely.. NOT by F-16 escort, then you should check out my FLYBOY PAGE, as my flight training enters the final stage!

From Flyboy (pt2)

One of the tests is to plan, execute, and fly, a solo journey of 200 miles or more. So I chose the mountains to Western Montana. (piece of cake, huh?) It was AWESOME… a lot of work, but worth the incredible ride! (since age 12) I have been documenting the training for AOPAPROJECT:PILOT and there is even an introductory video we designed. Do I have what it takes to pass “the test”??? Soon, we shall find out~ for now; check out THE PICS, THE VIDS, and THE X-C from last week. And if you want learn more about training, you can find the early stages in the original FLYBOY (pt1) album on THEFREEWAY500.COM website…. So CAVU to YOU (Clear Air & VIS Unltd.) …BTW, ground school just started, maybe you should take the demo? See if it doesn’t re-define your definition of true “freedom”.

Eyes Of A Soldier – Queensryche:Returns!

This just in:

QUEENSRYCHE / GEOFF TATE stops by the Friday Flamethrower to WORLD PREMIER the new disc ‘American Soldier‘ exclusively on Spokane’s Best Rock, and talks about the making of this heart-felt tribute to Americas War Veterans. Interspersed with commentary gathered while speaking one on one with hundreds of GI’s the music speaks these words that are too deep for many to express. Geoff Tate discovers an inner respect and deeper gratitude for the men & women of our nation’s armed forces.

Oh yeah, and IT ROCKS!!! The interview is posted on THE FREEWAY500 AUDIO page while our webmaster recuperates… and our thanks to Geoff for stopping by to play it for us! DJ Note: a THIRD segment was taped during the songs and will be run on the FREEWAY500 at a future time. So, stay tuned~ there’s MORE!

* Special thanks to SUSAN for letting us borrow HER copy of the disc to play for you, while it was still dripping wet. :P

ON the air / IN the air

Another MOSH-PIT performance on the way… Last week we had so much fun streaming the “Geoff Scott Live-Action Cam” to the website from the MONSTER JAM, that we’re going to try it again at the MOSH PIT! Following this performance, I’ll begin the edit on any video we get after my airshift, and have it posted over the weekend to the GEOFF SCOTT’S JOCK PAGE first, then the ROCK945.COM website, later. Meanwhile, the LIVE ACTION page will feature Jason Rupinski from DAVID RAGAN race team & BEHIND THE WALL NASCAR shots from Atlanta! ***Check that LIVE CAM page again on Sunday.

Geoff_X-C Wednesday was a GREAT day for flying. Well, maybe not if you were on an airliner, or trying to drive into North Idaho… but, FOR ME; I completed my first NIGHT CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT with brave CFI Dave from Spokane Airways! It was to Pullman & back, when some fairly tricky weather and low ceilings rolling in, making this flight one of adventure and experience, more than a joy of flying & sight seeing! A true test to everything I have been learning over the past year plus six weeks of ground-school. My calculations took us exactly where we were supposed to go, all done in COMPLETE darkness over the seemingly never-ending Palouse cloud layre.

GEG21APP Then, back in Spokane, with that 14kt wind cutting across the runway~ it was cross-wind landing opportunity we couldn’t pass up, so I did it …three times. This is where you land on ONE WHEEL until the plane is no longer “flying” on the downwind side and you slowly roll-out back onto all the wheels while maintaining directional stability on the giant tri-cycle. Pretty cool stuff. (but not for the timid or afraid of the dark!)

Due to some recent listener interest in my ongoing flight training, I’ve compiled (or for those who’d like to see some great aerial shots of the area as documented for the AOPA PROJECT:PILOT program) some sister albums: “Flyboy” (phase 1) and “Flyboy-2″ (2nd phase training) on picassa. photo-panelOr ALL photos on THE MAIN PHTOTOS PAGE at GEOFF SCOTT WEBSITE and make sure you FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELTS!
